Midway Atoll is a dot in the Pacific 1,200 miles west of Honolulu. It is made up of Sand Island, a little over 2 square miles, Eastern Island, 335 acres, and a sliver of sand called Spit Island. 18 seabird species nest on Midway, including the Laysan (over 400,000 pairs) and Black-footed Albatrosses, Bonin Petrels, Red-tailed Tropicbirds, White Terns, Red-footed Boobies and Great Frigatebirds. Hawaiian Monk Seals and Green Sea Turtles are also found here.
